Mad Carver Art Creations
Retired, bored, looking for something else to do with my hands other than writing, I find myself drawn back to woodcarving I started with my father half-a-century ago. He used to make custom gun cabinets and furniture with hidden spaces built into them. Then one of his friends committed suicide with one of the guns, and my father never made another gun cabinet or any other woodwork. Until retiring, i worked teaching students everything they needed to build and create things with their hands and minds. Wood, masonry, concrete work, welding, electricity, plumbing, painting, finishing, and handling every type of machinery or equipment they would need to complete their projects. It was a great time.
I returned to wood carving after retirement until arthritis stopped me cold. A friend told me about power carving using a dremel and angle grinders. It opened a whole new experience for me. When he contacted me asking if I could create an urn for his beloved doberman, Rolph, Unable to refuse, i built my first heart cremation Urn. Soon I found myself building others for bereaved pet owner friends. From there I've moved into various wood carving for seasonal home decoration, holidays, and special occasions. Something about the feel and smell of wood brings me closer to nature. Cuts and bruises aside-it has given me new life.
